Youth Unlimited Drop-in Centre Coming To Three Hills

Youth Centre Donation

Central Alberta Youth Unlimited representatives Skye Williams and Luke Capton were welcomed to the Monday, April 22, 2024, Regular Meeting of Three Hills Town Council.

Council was made aware of Youth Unlimited’s desire to establish a Youth Drop-in Centre somewhere in the community. Site Lead Skye Williams is an advocate for and supporter of youth. Youth Unlimited has established sites in eight Alberta communities already with Three Hills being the new addition, with a vision- To Provide Hope and Wellness for All Youth in a Faith-based Environment. “Growing up here I saw a lot of unhealthy situations,” said Skye. This often saw youth turn to crime, mischief, boredom and, in some cases, unsafe homes.

Luke is a youth engagement worker. Both he and Skye are engaged in communicating with youth and creating a place of refuge for them. This includes making good connections with the community.

Their vision for change includes establishing an available, secure space, and creating healthy relationships, connections and communication. They also focus on providing resources and reliability through their support network provided through their consistent and committed staff.

“We fundraise our own salaries”, said Skye. To date, about 75 people have made monthly donations to Youth Unlimited to allow Skye and Luke to work full-time.

Clr Marilyn Sept commented that they should be speaking to Kneehill Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Director Shelley Jackson-Berry to avoid the duplication of services.

Both Sky and Luke were overwhelmed with the community support they have received to date.

Youth Unlimited was the benefactor of proceeds from a recent First Responders Charity Hockey Game ($18,089.81) as outlined above photo) and the Good Friday Community Service Free Will Offering ($3,650.50). These funds will hopefully cover the rental costs of a brick-and-mortar location for their first year of operation.

Council thanked Skye and Luke for their dedication and commitment to their cause.
