Help Choose Trochu's 100

The Trochu and District Museum is launching two new projects to commemorate Trochu's centennial year in 2011 and needs public participation for one of them.
Help choose 100 significant citizens of Trochu, past and present. You are encouraged to nominate up to ten individuals who have contributed to their community (businessmen, political leaders, volunteers, athletes, artists, characters, etc.) and drop off your list at the Trochu and District Museum before August 31. Ballots should include a brief reason for each nomination. A committee has been struck to narrow the nominations down to 100 and two will be featured weekly in The Capital throughout 2011. A random draw from ballots received will be made for centennial prizes. Don't bother nominating Armand Trochu, as he automatically makes the list.
Also in the works for 2011 is a centennial calendar celebrating Trochu's history through the decades. Any business interested in sponsoring a page should contact museum president Bill Cunningham. Calendars will be available for purchase in the fall with proceeds going to the museum expansion fund.
The museum is now open to the public Monday through Saturday. In addition heritage displays, it has an extensive archives popular with people reaching their family roots. Tourist information for people visiting here or those planning a road trip around Alberta or BC is also available. Curator Toni Nelson and her assistant Karissa Richardson are back this year to welcome you.
