Colorful pieces of equipment are part of what will soon be the new water park, located beside the Three Hills Aquatic Center. The splash park / wading pool is in progress, the concrete has been poured, and construction of the mechanical building and washrooms will be starting soon.
The $450,000 project is scheduled to be completed by October 30th of this year, but the official opening will not be until the spring of 2011.
The 1800 sq. ft. splash park will be designed with equipment that sprays, squirts, mists and dumps water. The wading pool will be approximately 600 sq. ft., with a gradual slope for easy access.
Much of the funding for the park has come from Government grants, such as Recreation Infrastructure Canada (RInC), which is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, and the Municipal Sustainable Initiative (MSI), which represents the Government of Alberta's commitment to provide municipalities with sustainable funding to assist them in meeting the challenge of growth, and enhancing their long-term sustainability. A future fundraiser is being planned to raise money. Donations from corporations are being received. Any business that would like to be a part of this project will be recognized by signage at the park.
