There are times during a Community's lifetime when there is a risk of it losing its identity and cohesiveness. Residents in smaller Communities have to be prepared to pitch in and work for the good of their Community. Inevitably, more of the work is taken on by some than others. However it is critical to have a core of people who are prepared to take on that mantle.

Standing Up For Farmers: Last week at the conclusion of the annual meeting of Agriculture Ministers, federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Ministers from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta together announced vital help for hard-hit Prairie farmers and producers affected by recent flooding.  Affected producers will share $450 million in extra payments under the federal Agri-Recovery program.  The assistance package will amount to $30 per acre and will be cost-shared by the Prairie Provinces

The Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) has released its July 2010 Pool Return Outlook (PRO) for the 2009-10 crop year. Wheat values are up $1 per tonne for all grades and classes from the last 2009-10 wheat PRO, released in May. Durum is up between $1 and $4 per tonne over May's outlook, depending on grade and protein level. Malting barley is down $1 per tonne from the previous PRO, while feed barley is unchanged from its last outlook in June.

Residents of the Village of Acme did not receive their requested public meeting but Council approved a motion at their July 26 Council meeting for all councillors to answer the 15 or so questions and present them to the public in written form by Wednesday, July 28. A copy of the "Q" & "A" form can be picked up at the Village office after the noon deadline. An attempt will be made to answer all the questions. All Councillors were sent the questions by email.
