CARNEY, Patrick Francis

Pat Carney

January 9, 1945 – June 21, 2022

Pat passed away peacefully in his home on the Carney family farm where, with the exception of a few short stints of off farm work, he lived and worked his entire life. Pat received the early part of his education at Sarcee Butte school and later at Bay Coulee when the rural schools were being phased out. He graduated from Three Hills High School in (1964). From there he went on to earn a diploma in Agriculture at the Olds School of Agriculture.mPat’s keen interest in farming was evident from an early age; he would straddle a garden rake and till a rectangular plot where he would grow his imaginary crop. In 1974 he became an Alberta Wheat Pool delegate and served until 1988. Pat was also very much into sports: baseball in the summer and hockey and curling in the winter. He started playing baseball at Ghost Pine in 1955 and played for 23 consecutive years until 1978. He was very active in local municipal politics and cared a great deal about his community. Pat was predeceased by his parents Stan (1965) and Elizabeth Carney (2005), sister-in-law Bonnie (Desmond) Carney (2008), niece Amy (Phil) Alain (2019), and brother-in-law Al (Helen) Alain (2020). He is survived by his brother Desmond Carney, and sisters Kathleen (Adam) Klug and Helen Alain, along with his numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was very social and enjoyed visiting with people from the community. He had a gift of seeing the best in others as well as pointing out the silver lining of any situation. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A funeral Mass will be held for Pat at St. Anne of the Prairies Catholic Church in Trochu on Thursday June 30th , 2022 at 12:00 noon.
