ALBRECHT, Dale William

Dale Albrecht Obit

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dale William Albrecht on July 26, 2022. He was 73 years old. Dale was born on May 28, 1949 to Elmer and Helen (nee Walker) Albrecht in Trochu, Alberta. He was the second of four children. Dale grew up in a small two room house west of Trochu and north of HWY 27, where he lived with his parents and oldest sister, Marlene. When Dale was nine years old, the family purchased a farm from the Johnson family and moved south of highway 27. Dale lived on this property for the rest of his life, and his family continues to reside there. Dale attended school in Torrington until grade 9. He quit school and never went back. He always said he regretted not finishing his schooling. Dale’s passion in life was horses. He rode horses from the time he was very young. His father traded horses, so there were always new horses for Dale to ride and train. He had many fond memories of riding around the countryside with his cousins, Donna and Randy, and his friends, Jim Freeman and Clifford Hazel. As a young man, Date helped his dad and Uncle Mel on the farm, but soon he and Jim Freeman developed an interest in rodeo. Dale rodeoed professionally for thirteen years as a saddle bronc rider. He competed successfully in Canada and the northwestern states. Dale met his wife, Terry (nee Hazel), in 1973. They were in a wedding party together, as Dale’s cousin Glen was marrying Terry’s cousin Dorothy. Dale and Terry married in August of 1977. In 1980, their son Tyler was born, and their daughter Paige was born in 1982. After Dale quit the rodeo circuit in 1981, he continued training horses professionally. He built an indoor arena with money he earned working temporarily for Kneehill County. The following years saw Dale and his family competing in many horse shows and events, They included reining, breed shows, cattle penning, team roping, ranch horse versatility, and mounted shooting. He instilled his love of horses in his children. To this day, Tyler and Paige are still avid riders and accomplished competitors. Dale also raised and trained some very nice horses over the years. He always looked forward to riding young horses and transforming them into well broke, all-around mounts. He never ceased starting colts or training horses, and he spent his last days doing what he loved, riding his horse in the mountains with friends and family. Dale is survived by his wife of 45 years, his son Tyler (Kayleigh), his daughter Paige (Scott), his sisters Marlene (Byron), and Lynda, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dale was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Helen, and his sister Terra. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. The family would like to thank friends, family, and community members for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. It is truly humbling.
