JEFFERY, John Charles

Jeffery John RDFH

John Charles Jeffery passed away peacefully on November 9, 2022 at the Centennial Centre in Ponoka. John was born in High River, AB on October 14, 1944. He lived in Nanton with his parents, Evelyn & Charles, and younger sister, Sharon, until 1953 when the family moved to Three Hills. John began his career in bookkeeping, initially working in Three Hills and then for ATCO in Calgary and Edmonton before going back to Three Hills to work for Kneehill County. In 1979, John assumed the role of Chief Administration Officer for Kneehill County and held that title until retiring in 2000. He completed a Degree in Municipal Administration from the University of Alberta and served as the President of the Rural Municipalities of Alberta board during those years as well. John and his wife Sandra were high-school sweethearts, were married in 1968 and started their life together in Edmonton. They soon relocated back to Three Hills where they raised their sons and continued to live and call home until 2020 when they moved to Red Deer. Having two active boys always meant endless hours on the roads for sports with his boys, transporting them to and from their games and helping to coach their teams; something John was always happy to do. He was also active in the community through the Kinsmen Club and the Masons. John loved sports and the outdoors, especially golf, hunting, camping and fishing. He looked forward to his annual fall hunting trips, always returning with many fun memories to share and occasionally some meat for the freezer. John and Sandra owned a property west of Edmonton for years, which was one of John’s favourite places to spend time and where he loved roaming around on the quads. John had a natural talent for music, carrying on the family tradition as a drummer in a band and could sit down at a keyboard and play any song with ease. He and Sandra even tore up the floor at local dances – they did a mean disco! John was a generous and fun-loving man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. John was always willing to help, without hesitation, anytime family and friends needed it. John loved spending time with family more than anything and especially with his two grandchildren; he was always so very proud of them. Friends and family were always of the utmost importance to John. John was predeceased by his father, Charles, and his mother, Evelyn. He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Sandra (nee Davis), son Michael (Kim) and grandchildren Benjamin and Abigail, son Scott (Raylene), sister, Sharon Guttridge (Ron), numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. The family is ever grateful for the compassionate and kind care provided to John while he was living at the Hamlets in Red Deer over the past two years and to the staff at the Ponoka Continuing Care Centre in his last weeks with us. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to share your memories and stories of John with us to celebrate his life. At www.reddeerfuneralhome.com No formal service will be held at this time. A small celebration of life will be held with family and friends later where we’ll raise a glass and share some laughs and memories in his honour. Details to come in early 2023.
