Mervin Molnar

Mervin Ernest Molnar of Red Deer, formerly of Trochu, passed suddenly and peacefully Wednesday, November 16, 2022, he was 83. Mervin was born on June 27, 1931, to Gus and Margaret Molnar. Mervin was the only son and the middle child with two older sisters and two younger sisters. Mervin was born, raised and lived almost his entire life in Trochu. As a boy Mervin attended Pontmain Catholic School. In 1955 Mervin moved briefly to Calgary to follow in his father’s footsteps honing his skill and becoming a master tailor. On returning to Trochu, Mervin partnered with his dad as merchant tailors and they continued to have a successful business at G.A. Molnar & Son Men’s and Boy’s Wear on Main Street in Trochu. Mervin met the love of his life, Neona in 1962. Neona came to Trochu to begin her nursing career and the romance began. They were married on July 8, 1964. Mervin was a devoted father to Kurt Bradley. Kurt was the light of Mervin’s life; every moment was precious. Mervin became a cub scout leader and hockey dad. Mervin’s joy was multiplied when Kurt married Cara in 1999 and soon, they were blessed with their two grandchildren Quinn & Carmen. Mervin loved being outside with his family and friends. He had a passion for animals. He loved horses. He rode Gymkana and later rode and showed his Arabian horses. Mervin always loved his pets and had many cats and dogs throughout his life. Mervin was a magnet for every dog that needed a pat or a belly rub. He was an avid hunter and belonged to the Trochu Gun Club. Many days were spent tinkering in his garage. Retirement day trips in his convertible were always an adventure. Mervin and Neona loved camping and enjoyed every stop they made across Canada and later enjoyed spending their summers camped at Fawn Meadows Campground in Delburne. They were members of the Retreads Motorcycle Club and enjoyed many memorial motorcycle trips. Mervin is survived by his cherished wife Neona, son Kurt (Cara), grandchildren Quinn & Carmen, sisters Geraldine (Stan) & JoAnne, sister-in- laws Julianne (Tim) and Bev (Bud), numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces & nephews as well as many cousins and their families. Mervin was predeceased by his parents Gus & Margaret Molnar, his 2 older sisters Betty (Elizabeth) and Marianne (in infancy) and nephew Trevor. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 in the basement of the Trochu Catholic Church (1-4 PM).
