It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our Mum and Dad James and Nanette McCullough. Jim and Nanette were married on Oct 27th 1961 in Kirkconnel, Scotland and started their family in April of 1962 with the birth of their first daughter Lorraine, Audrey followed in 1963 and Kevin was born in 1967. We immigrated to Canada in 1974. Mum and Dad both worked in the meat cutting business as Dad was a butcher. They lived and worked in Crossfield, Trochu, Innisfail, Watervalley & Pigeon Lake. They were both very hard workers and worked many years in the meat cutting industry!! Once they retired Dad followed his dreams and became more involved with thoroughbred horse racing, he was the owner and trainer of many thoroughbreds throughout the years and would race them in the summer in Canada and Tampa, Florida in the winter. In 2016, after 42 years in Canada, Dad made the decision to leave his home at Pigeon Lake and sell his home in Florida and move back to Scotland with Mum, as she was diagnosed with dementia and he believed it would be better for her there. Dad looked after Mum for a couple years but then his health took a turn for the worst so he had to make the difficult decision to move Mum to a care home in August of 2018. Dad struggled at home by himself so he had carers coming into the house daily to help him!! In May of 2022, Dad was moved to Mums care home where he sadly passed on June 11th, 2022. Our Mum, Nanette is now in heaven with our Dad as she sadly passed away peacefully in the care home on Jan 31st 2023 after many years of suffering with dementia. They are both in a better place and are finally at peace. They leave behind their daughter, Lorraine & husband Allan, Daughter Audrey & husband Dale, Son Kevin and wife Tara. 9 Grandchildren- Darren, Steven, William, Levi, Brenna, Kelsey, Kendra, Eric & Aiden & 9 Great grandchildren- Hannah, Alice, Axel, Declan, Mayvis, Ryder, Brynlee, Connor & Jennifer. Nanette’s funeral will be held at Masonhill Crematorium, Ayr, Scotland on Wednesday Feb. 15th at 4:15 pm.
