Marlene Rose Atkinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on July 8, 2023, in Linden, Alberta, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and courage. Marlene was born on September 22, 1951, in Simcoe, Ontario to her parents, Muriel and Stanley Atkinson. Surrounded by her siblings, James, Marty, Dean, Dianne, and Glenn, she grew up in a vibrant and nurturing family environment that shaped her into the incredible woman she became. Marlene’s professional journey was as diverse and colorful as her personality. She was a woman of many talents, which she employed in various roles at Acme and Linden as a kindergarten teacher’s aide, and even as an author of children’s books. Her creativity was not confined to the written word; she was an artist who painted signs and enhanced antique photos with meticulous precision. Marlene’s musical talents were a source of joy to all who had the pleasure of hearing her perform. Her skills as a seamstress were also put to good use, both in her professional life and in her role as a mother and grandmother. In her private life, Marlene was a woman of innumerable interests. She had a passion for travel, which she satisfied through numerous journeys around North America on a bus with her children. She was deeply invested in holistic healing, and her curiosity about the world extended to her friendships, which she cherished deeply. Music was a constant source of inspiration and comfort to Marlene. Her love for her beautiful farm was evident in the meticulous care she took of it, and her adoration for her little dog, Molly, was unmatched. Marlene was also a skilled gardener, cook, and canner, making her a true homemaker. Marlene’s family was her greatest joy and her most significant achievement. She was the proud mother of Jessica Fetterly, Heather Howden, and Greg Howden. She was a doting grandmother to Jayden Fetterly, Jordyn Fetterly, and Cassidy Mullock. The arrival of her great-grandchildren, Caleb Hogan, and Damon Fetterly, brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Marlene was an interesting woman, always ready to share a story or lend an ear. Her creativity was evident in all aspects of her life, from her professional endeavors to the love and care she put into her home and family. Her courage was demonstrated in the way she faced life’s challenges, always with a positive attitude and an indomitable spirit.
