Obit Alec Nister

Alec James Nistor, 89, of Three Hills, Alberta passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. Alec, one of thirteen children was born in Saskatchewan on March 31, 1934 to Bill and Agnes Nistor. After leaving home, Alec worked on the telegraph as a lineman. While on his work travels, he met the love of his life, Carol at a dance in Dewinton. They married on February 10, 1956 and soon after welcomed their daughter, Janice. Finding it difficult to work away from home, Alec decided to try the tire business and in 1965 his family relocated from Calgary to Three Hills where he owned and operated the OK Tire Store. After selling the tire store, Alec worked for the M.D, of Kneehill and the Town of Three Hills but the entrepreneur calling was strong and he built the car wash and gas station now known as Ron’s Gas and Wash. For many years, Alec was a volunteer firefighter and an avid member of the Three Hills Elks. He especially enjoyed marching competitively with the Elks Patrol team. Alec enjoyed traveling, woodworking, golf, curling and dancing but his real passion was music. He was self taught in banjo and played in the band, Five Plus One. Many hours were also spent around the campfire playing and singing. After retiring, Alec and Carol traveled to Arizona for the winter months for several years before deciding to make Osoyoos, B.C their winter home. In 1997, Alec became Grandpa to his cherished granddaughter, Jenny. Alec is survived by his daughter, Janice (Brian), granddaughter, Jenny (Cody), great grandchildren, Addolyn, Teadrick and Timber, brothers, Paul (Liz), John (Nettie) and numerous nieces and nephews. Alec was predeceased by his wife, Carol, father and mother, Bill and Agnes Nistor, brothers, Tony, Peter, Mike, Steve and Gus, sisters, Faye, Barbara, Mary, Rose and Agnes. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM. Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Knox United Church, 108 5th Ave. S. E. , Three Hills. Those who wish to remember Alec in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada Southern Alberta Branch Calgary.
