SCHLAUCH, John Richard

Obit John Schlauch

John Richard Schlauch, 82, passed away peacefully with family by his side, November 19, 2023 after an unexpected and brief illness. He was born April 15, 1941 in Trochu, Alberta to Henry & Olga Schlauch (nee Schlepp) where he farmed his family’s land for many years. John was every bit a tough and hardy farmer. (But, those who knew him well, knew there was a soft and kind heart under that tough guy exterior!) He was a well liked, and well-known member of the Three Hills and Trochu communities. He loved to socialize and was famous for his highly sought after (heavy on the vodka!!) homemade Caesars! John had a passion for motorcycling (specifically Harleys), camping, traveling, adventuring, and enjoying the company of the people he loved. He was known for being as generous as he was tall! He spent his retirement years in the warmer climate of Yuma, Arizona, where he met his partner, Wilma Staggs. John & Wilma spent many years enjoying Yuma winters & Trochu summers, as well as other travels. He is survived by partner Wilma Staggs, son Mike Schlauch, granddaughters Kirsten & Chloe Schlauch, sisters Lucille Beach & Sharon Quigley, as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Mike Schlauch and family would like to invite friends and relatives to join them at the Lutheran Cemetery north of Trochu, at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 9 for a short service in honor of John. An in-formal luncheon and a chance to share memories and stories about John, will take place at 12:00 noon at the Trochu Baptist Fellowship Centre. All are welcome.
