PLETT, Carol

Obit Carol Plett

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Plett on December 5th, 2023 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 76. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be deeply missed. Above all else, Carol had a strong and steadfast faith in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It was this faith that guided her through life’s journey and is the reason why we know that Carol is with Jesus. Her suffering is now over and she is whole again. She faced her illness with courage and with little complaint. We praise God that her battle with cancer is done.

Carol was born the eldest of 10 children on April 1, 1947 in Morris, Manitoba to the late Jake and Nettie Klassen. Carol accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 7 at a Salvation Army service in Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba. Carol met Rick in Kola, Manitoba in 1964. Rick took note of her on the outdoor skating rink and the rest is history. Carol’s witness was instrumental in the love of her life, Rick, receiving Jesus. They were married on October 30, 1965 and over the years, have lived in every province in Western Canada twice. Rick and Carol’s son Shawn was born in 1970 and son Charles was adopted in 1973. In 1986, Carol and her husband Rick sensed a call on their lives to go into ministry, predominantly prison ministry using music and song as a means. In the early years, Carol tirelessly wrote hundreds of handwritten letters to solicit support for the ministry. In the earlier years, along with their sons, they covered many miles singing, preaching, and teaching. Rick and Carol have been to at least 36 prisons in Canada and the ministry continues today. Carol truly enjoyed the musical aspect of ministry. She loved singing on stage, bus touring and was proud to have played a part in recording over 200 songs. Music Days at Refuge Ranch were a highlight in her life. In addition to her work in ministry, Carol was a dedicated homemaker, wife, and grandmother. Carol loved her grandsons and they loved her. They will miss her hugs, words of encouragement, her prayers for them and also her cooking! Carol’s faith in the Lord and her commitment to her husband and ministry has left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rick, her son Shawn (Catherine) Plett, son Charles (Danielle) Plett and grandchildren Cody, Landon, Casey, Finley, Charlie and Brooks Plett. She is also survived by her siblings Ann (Wally) Plett, Wayne (Joan) Klassen, Harold (Florence) Klassen, Murray (Sharon) Klassen, Viola (Roy) Kroeker, Rod (Linda) Klassen, Laura (Laurie) Kitchen, John (Lorna) Klassen, and Valerie (Gerald) Glor.

Carol is also survived by in-laws Evelyn Plett, Laverna Gaudry, Lorne (Jennie) Plett, Rose (Peter) Peters, and Diana (Neil) Ferguson. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Carol was predeceased by her stillborn grandson Jesse Plett, her sister-in-law Elizabeth Klassen, brother-in-law Gerry Gaudry, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Leanna (Lloyd) Wittmeier, brother-in-law Wes (Helen) Plett and brother-in-law Jerome Plett.
