HARSCH, Richard

Obit Richard Harsch

Richard was born April 20, 1932, to Christian and Rosie Harsch on the family farm. He was the second eldest of five boys. He and all his brothers were born and raised on the family farm, six miles south of Carbon, Ab. He attended a small country school just 1.5 miles from home. He finished Grade School (Grade 8) and then stayed on the farm for a while. His brothers all eventually went on to further their education to enter Pastoral ministry while Richard ventured into grain buying for the UGG, moving from Olds to Delia to Carbon once again. While in the Olds area, Richard met and fell in love with Deloris Weidman of the Reed Ranch area and on March 31, 1954 they were married at East Olds Baptist Church. Together they raised three sons who have been the pride of their lives, moving back to the family farm in 1964 and farming until 1989. Richard was always active in the church, a very important part of life to him and his family. He served in many different capacities such as choir member, special music with Deloris and family, Sunday school teacher, church clerk, financial secretary, deacon, youth sponsors/advisors, and boys brigade. After farming, he took on various roles such as crop insurance adjuster, auto detailer and being a jail guard for the commissionaires, something he seemed to be very proud of. Also, after the loss of his first wife, he remarried in 2009 to Susie Stahl and gained 2 stepsons and daughter-in-laws, along with 4 more grandchildren. Richard is predeceased by his parents, Christian and Rosie Harsch, an infant daughter Marnita, father and mother-in-law Henry and Helen Weidman, his wife Deloris, brothers Ray and Adine Harsch, brother-in-laws Melvyn, Vernon, Gordon and Dennis Weidman and Gordon Kary, and quite a few more extended family members. Mourning Richard’s loss are: three sons and their wives and families, Terry, Jean, Corie, Amberlie and Jileane; Darcy, Sharon, Mitchel, Leighton, Kylie, Daniel and Taran; and Darrin, Wanda, Melissa, and Matthew, brothers Alvin and Wilbert and Myrna Harsch, his wife Susie Stahl and her two sons and four step grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, Three Hills.
