MARTIN, Daniel Walter

Obit Dan Martin

Daniel Walter Martin, a devoted farmer and beloved family man, was born on April 8, 1942, in Trochu, Alberta, to Dan and Lydia Martin. He was the third of five sons. Dan lived on the Wimborne homestead until 1967 when he met his wife, Agnes Joan. They married that same year and together purchased their own homestead within 2 miles of his original home. This new chapter marked the beginning of a life filled with love, hard work, and family. Daniel was not only dedicated to farming but also played an integral role in his community. He was a founding member of the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department in 1979, serving faithfully for nearly 40 years. Daniel’s passion for curling was unmistakable—he eagerly participated in bonspiels alongside his brother Clarence until the conclusion of this last season in 2024. His dedication extended beyond the ice; Daniel also played a pivotal role in the construction of the Torrington arena, leaving a lasting mark on the local sporting community. On the evening of April 16, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, Daniel peacefully passed away at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Agnes Joan Martin, and their children, Stanley (Dawnaca) Martin and Crystal (Matt) Fox. Daniel was a cherished grandfather to Cacye, Garrison, Colby (Jose), Tray-Lyn, Quynlan, Aidyn, and Griffyn, and a beloved great-grandfather to Jose. He is also survived by his brothers, Clarence (Betty) Martin and John (Karen) Martin. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Lydia Martin, and his brothers Ed and Raymond Martin. A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Wimborne Community Hall, Wimborne, AB. In memory of Dan donations may be made to the Torrington Fire Department of the Wimborne Community Hall. Kneehill Funeral Services, Trochu & Three Hills, entrusted with arrangements. 403-443-5111.
