KNIEVEL, Francis Joseph

KNIEVEL - The family of Francis Joseph Knievel announce with sadness his peaceful passing surrounded by family on April 27 at the age of 79 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton from a brief three month but courageous battle with renal cell cancer. Francis was born on October 17, 1931, the oldest child of eleven to Anton and Ena Knievel. Francis was raised on the farm near Trochu and attended Pontmain School from grade 1-12. On June 9, 1954 Francis married Annette Hermary of Red Deer and they moved to Calgary for six years and then moved to Edmonton, where together they raised their four children. For 37 years Francis was an office manager for New York Life Insurance in Edmonton. Upon retirement, he turned his lifelong hobby of carpentry into a business and helped many friends, family and neighbours when he wasn't enjoying a good book, square dancing and fiddle music, gardening, hunting or fishing. He took his last fishing trip near Nanaimo with his son Daryl in January of 2011. He not only took pride in his business and hobbies, but truly relished the friends he made as a result of his hard work and sense of humour. Predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Annette in June 2007, Francis was a caring father to Wanda of Edmonton; Daryl (Amanda) of Nanaimo; Lewis (Lorena) of Morinville; and Linda (Ian) of Edmonton and precious Grandpa to Andrea, Bryce, Brenna, Brittany, Cassandra, Ben and Jak. Francis is also survived by his second wife of 2 years, Joyce. Francis was a loving brother to Ken (Barb) and Edward (Marlene) both of Trochu; Bob (Carol) of Redmond, Washington; Leo (Jan) of Granum; Gerald (Karen) of Camrose; Donald (Angela) of Manning; Ann (Garf) of Somerset, MB; and sister-in-law Carol Knievel of Bienfait, SK and by their families. Francis was predeceased by his Mom (1975), Dad (1997); sister Mary (2001); brothers George (2004) and Sylvester (2010). A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew Parish, 12810 - 111 Avenue, Edmonton at 10:30 am on Monday, May 9th.
