June 14, 2010

Vivian Mae Grassmick passed into the presence of the Lord Jesus, whom she loved and served, on June 14, 2010, at the Three Hills Health Centre. Vivian was born in Ragan, Nebraska, on January 29, 1921, the only child of Carrie Mae and James Rannel Burt. When she was a young girl, her parents moved to Crowley, Colorado. She received her education through Crowley public schools and graduated from Crowley High School. As a teenager, while attending First Baptist Church in nearby Ordway, Colorado, she put her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Vivian married Jonathan (John) Grassmick of Sugar City, Colorado, on January 26, 1943. In 1950 they moved to Three Hills, Alberta, where John attended Prairie Bible Institute for three years and Vivian cared for their family at their home in Grantville. In 1956 they moved to Knik, Alaska, near Wasilla, to help build Sunny Knik Bible Camp. They returned to Grantville in 1958 and John apprenticed as an auto mechanic. From 1964 to 1972 he operated the Texaco Service Station on 1st Avenue and 2nd Street North in Three Hills and Vivian provided steadfast, loving care for the family that had grown to ten children. During this time, the family became naturalized Canadian citizens. In 1972, John and Vivian and five of their children moved to Kelowna, British Columbia, where John started and operated his own excavating business. During the following years Vivian cared for the needs of her family as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In 2007, John and Vivian moved back to Three Hills to reside at the Chateau. Vivian had a pleasant, easy-going gracious personality. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and homemaker, sweet grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. She was a godly woman full of faith and faithful in her walk with the Lord. She enjoyed being with people and left her fingerprints of love on the lives she touched. Vivian is survived by Jonathan (John) her faithful and loving husband of 67 years who resides at the Chateau Three Hills; John and Karen Grassmick of Dallas, Texas; Janet and Joe DuMontier of Marysville, BC; Jerald and Carol Grassmick of Kelowna, BC; Joy Grassmick of Cranbrook, BC; Jeanne and Al Benn of Peace River, AB; Jo Ann and Randy Jopp of Barrhead, AB; James and Cindy Grassmick of Kelowna, BC; Jewel and Randy Schartner of Three Hills, AB; Joel and Lyndel Grassmick of Valleyview, AB and Jeff and Shelley Grassmick of Calgary, AB.
