Muriel Georgina Bennett ~ Feb. 7, 1924 - July 18, 2010~Muriel was born Muriel Georgina McDermott, on February 7, 1924 near Ettington, Saskatchewan. She passed away in Three Hills on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at age 86. Muriel grew up in southwestern Saskatchewan during the hard times of the dirty thirties. Her mother passed away from tuberculosis when she was just five years old. The family moved to Dryden, Ontario to find work in the burgeoning pulp and paper industry. Muriel's penchant for writing poetry was established early with her first poems dating around 1940. It was near Dryden that Muriel met the Bennett family and their youngest son Roy Bennett. Roy and Muriel were married in April, 1949, and moved to Prairie Bible Institute where Roy graduated in 1953. They were asked to join the staff of PBI where Roy managed the Carpenter Shop. Muriel and Roy were blessed with three sons, Ken, Norm and Dean. Roy passed away in 2002 and shortly after, Muriel moved into the Three Hills Continuing Care facility where she found a new family in the wonderful caregivers and residents there. Although this was a time of declining health, it was a most special time for Muriel. She felt safe, loved and appreciated and her life blossomed on so many levels. So many have noted how cheerful she was. As a family, we want to pay tribute to the wonderful people of this community who reached out to Muriel in so many ways, who helped her with many errands, spent time with her and shared your lives with her, and to the staff at Continuing Care, we can never say enough. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. She will be lovingly remembered by: her son Ken and his wife Donna and their two girls Sherri and Janette; by son Norman and his wife Trish and their two sons Chris and Curtis; and by son Dean and his wife Arlene and their son Ryley and daughter Abbey. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Prairie Bible College. Interment took place on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Three Hills Cemetery. Memorial services followed at 2:00 p.m. at Kneehill Funeral Services Chapel, Three Hills. Kneehill Funeral Services Ltd., Three Hills, entrusted with arrangements. 403-443-5111.
