JANZ - Our beloved mother, Dorothy, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital after a short, but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 89. She was born to Lloyd and Velma Hayne on April 6, 1921, at Didsbury, Alberta. Mom was raised in the Didsbury area and graduated from the Didsbury High School. She was married to our dear father, Lloyd McCaig, on October 26, 1940. They raised eight children - four boys and four girls. Along with being a loving housewife and mother, Mom drove school bus; worked in a bakery in Didsbury; in the laundry at Foothills Hospital; and at the Japan Evangelical Mission in Three Hills. Dad passed away on September 19, 1975.A very special man came into Mom's life when she and Gus Janz were married in Three Hills on March 12, 1977, at which time Mom was very happy to gain two step-children. On October 15, 1994, Gus passed away and Mom lived at the Golden Hills Lodge in Three Hills until her passing. The family is thankful for the special friendships she made at the Lodge and for the special staff members who were so caring, loving and thoughtful. Mom is survived by her children: Wayne and Marilyn McCaig, Grace and Irvin Isaac, Phil and Betty McCaig, Paul and Peggy McCaig, Lois Carter and Shirley Frenette; daughter-in law Kay McCaig, and son-in-law David Riopel; also by her stepchildren: Larry and Christa Janz and son-in-law Ron Colbeck. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald Hayne and her sister, Ruby Hinsz. Mom took great pride in her 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and she accepted each one with unconditional love and joy. She will also be missed by several dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Lloyd McCaig, Gus Janz, her brother Raymond Hayne, sister Muriel August, daughter Sylvia Riopel, son Lavern McCaig, step-daughter Glenna Colbeck, and son-in-law Jean Frenette. Mom's unwavering faith in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her entire life and touched every aspect of her life. She so enjoyed her music, had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano. Over the years, she was often asked to sing at various functions at her church and also at weddings and funerals. The family enjoyed asking Mom to sing at our many family gatherings and she was always very happy to oblige. She was a generous, caring and loving person and will surely be missed. Memorial donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S. or mission of choice. Services were held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, Three Hills, AB with interment in Three Hills Cemetery. Arrangements in care of SUNSET FUNERAL SERVICE, Linden, AB, 403-546-3903.
