Emma Schmidt

Emma was born in Laschanowka, Ukraine, December 3, 1931. She emigrated to Canada in 1950. On April 9, 1953 she married Sig Schmidt of Three Hills. Emma was a woman of few words and had a strong faith. When she said something, you knew that she meant it. Emma spent most of her years on the Schmidt family farm south of Three Hills. The love, care and hospitality she provided to family and friends was her gift to us all. As well as raising their own children, Emma and Sig also selflessly opened their Obituary home to extended family and raised them as their own. The farm was always open for food and lodging regardless of the number of the time. Emma had a large family garden and was well known for her wonderful home cooked meals, family favorites being strudel, “holupsec” (cabbage rolls”) and spaghetti sauce with homemade egg noodles, and the birthday cakes she made were lovingly frosted with white mountain icing, are special memories. Emma was always busy doing something; her hands were never idle. Her family treasure the homemade crafts they received. Emma was predeceased by her husband Sig in 2014 and daughter Bertha in 1954, parents, brother, and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Lily and Sharon Schmidt, Elsie Nelson and family and honorary daughters; Emma Lammle and family and Elfie Newman and family.
