Thurn Obit

Douglas Allen Thurn passed away early in the morning Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Westview Care Community in Linden after a long, hard battle with cancer at the age of 58. He was the husband of Victoria Thurn (nee Falk) they had just celebrated 31 years of marriage. Doug was born June 22, 1962 in Calgary, AB to Norman and Elvira Thurn. He grew up and worked on the family farm outside of Beiseker, attended school in Beiseker and Acme where he graduated as class valedictorian. After high school he attended Camrose Lutheran College for a few years where he continued to grow his knowledge and understanding of his Heavenly Father. Doug also used this time to share his love of music and singing while he toured with a singing group Prairie Wind. He would leave the farm, but always returned. Next was DeVry where he learned computer technology.

That led him into working for Walbern AgriSystems in Linden, AB for years. During that time is when he met Vicki and they were married March 30, 1990. He continued to be a part of the farm and eventually took over. Together he and Vicki raised pigs for years and then transitioned into strictly grain. He was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery in 2008 he continued to do well until it again returned in 2018. After radiation treatment the disease seemed to stabilize until the fall of 2020. Doug had a passion for people, for singing and music and he loved his family greatly. He was largely involved in church all the years through teaching, council, choir and many other roles. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his acts of service, his hospitality and his kind and caring nature. He is survived by the love of his life Vicki, his children Karlie Davis (Jesse), Russell and Erika, granddaughter Korbyn; mother Elvira Thurn, brothers Tim (Marjorie), Peter (Chris) sister Donna Mikl (Al); father-in-law Dave Falk, in-laws Ruth Poettcker (Eric), Edie Shantz (Al), Don Falk (Liz), Judy Thiessen (Dave); 18 nieces and nephews, their spouses and kids. He is predeceased by his son Kurt Douglas, father Norman Thurn, sister Wendy and brother-in-law Phil Colgate, mother-in-law Selma Falk, nephew James Thiessen and niece Bailey Thiessen. A private funeral service was held Wednesday April 28, 2021 at 1pm.
