Seniors Outreach News May 22, 2013

Living on your own, lost your appetite, or simply can't be bothered cooking, Seniors Outreach has the answer for you! On Monday, June 3rd at 11:30 – 1:00 in the Community Centre, Suzanne Sinclair from the Sweetgrass Café in Trochu is going to lead a session on simple cooking tips for anyone living on their own or who can't think what to cook and needs inspiration. This session will include a nutritious sample meal to stimulate ideas of what seniors can do. Statistics Canada reports that 50% of seniors or those living on their own don't eat well or enough so come and take advantage of this opportunity to learn.
It is hard to get moving sometimes, especially when everything aches but it is important to keep moving as much as possible. On Monday, June 3rd at 10:00-11:00 in the Community Centre, we will have a presentation on little things you can do to keep yourself moving because if you don't, you'll stiffen up and it will be even more difficult to motivate yourself to move.  Come and join this session and learn new exercises that will help you.
On Tuesday, June 4, come and enjoy the incredible potluck lunch at the CommUnity Drop-In Centre. Bring your favourite dish or just come and enjoy this superb meal for $3.  The Golden Hills senior bell choirs are going to play for this special Seniors Week potluck so don't miss out on a great meal, wonderful entertainment, and lots of fun and fellowship.
The Hillside Lanes offers 2 for 1 bowling during Seniors Week on Tuesday, June 4 and they also provide refreshments!  This is a sweet deal so come out from 2:00-4:00 OR bring a friend, a grandchild or great grandchild, a neighbor, or a young person that you know and bowl from 4:00-5:30.  This is a wonderful way to build relationships and establish new friendships.  There are many young people in our community that could use a caring grandparent role model, so get involved and take advantage of this 2 for 1 opportunity from Hillside Lanes.
Banquet tickets are available in all Kneehill communities so remember to get your tickets. They are $10 until May 31 so buy early and save. There will be lots of good food, fun, and fellowship along with door prizes and silent auction items. We hope to see you there to make the evening special.
