As we move into the fall and winter season the risk of falling increases. Here are some simple exercises to strengthen your ankles to reduce that risk. These exercises can be done anytime in the day....before getting out of bed, before going to bed or any time in between.
Remember to do both feet. Wiggle your toes, move your foot up and down at the ankle joint, move your foot out to the side and then towards the opposite foot, circle your ankles, first one way then the other direction, draw the alphabet in capital letters with your big toe, sit in a chair with a towel under your foot and try to wrinkle up the towel with your toes.
Also good for you is to take regular walks, participate in an exercise class and wear low heel, broad based, nonslip shoes.
Seniors Outreach facilitates exercise classes just for seniors. Everyone is welcome to join. You will enjoy the fellowship of friends while getting some exercise. Join them at Bethel Evangelical Church gym on Mondays, the Chateau Three Hills on Tuesdays or Robertson Manor on Thursdays.
