Seniors Outreach - February 19, 2020

Meet the Seniors Outreach Board! Help us begin to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Seniors Outreach Program Society. By 1995, Seniors Outreach Program Society (Seniors Outreach) was established with office space in Three Hills to service seniors in Kneehill County. So many areas of concern had been identified and before 1995 there seemed to be no specific organization to assist seniors in maneuvering through the ‘maze’. Over the last 25 years, numerous areas of concern were identified and as a result programs and direction was established to seek to meet the needs of seniors in these areas within Kneehill County:

1. A main and accessible office to come to – hence the Provincial Building in Three Hills.

2. Transportation – Caring Cars, Community Bus, and a Wheelchair Bus,

3. Staff to assist with questions, fill in forms, and advocate for seniors with provincial and federal offices – four part-time staff (two in the main office – administrator and administrative assistant – one coordinator in Kneehill North (office hours in Trochu and Torrington) & 1 coordinator in Kneehill South (office hours in Carbon, Acme and Linden).

4. A variety of programs – Parkinsons & Grief and Loss meetings, Gifts for Grandparents, Seniors Week activities, Caring Visitors, Caring Callers, Intergenerational activities, Meals on Wheels, Monthly Information Meetings (educational sessions for seniors and their families), etc.

**Seniors Outreach is extremely thankful for the cooperativeness of the Seniors Associations/Drop-In Centres within Kneehill County, who provide space for Meetings, sessions, office hours, and work together with our organization to meet the needs of Seniors within Kneehill County. This cooperation is so important in meeting seniors’ needs!

5. Opportunities for Volunteerism – 2018 – 191 volunteers identified as assisting seniors through Seniors Outreach (Seniors serving Seniors).

6. Partnerships with a variety of organizations, businesses, individuals, for programming.

7. A non-profit organization overseen by a Volunteer Board of Directors:

Presently this board (2019-2020) is composed of:

* Rhoda Murray – Chair

• Brian Richard – Vice-Chair

• Joyce Penner – Secretary

• Daniel Pliva – Treasurer

• Ella Lammle – Director and Liaison with the CommUnity Drop-In Centre (Three Hills)

• Steve Estabrooks – Director

• Dennis Punter – Director

8. As a non-profit entity, Seniors Outreach has been extremely thankful for a major funder in Kneehill County being the Kneehill Regional Family and Community Support Services (KRFCSS), and for the many individuals, organizations, businesses, etc. across Kneehill County that donate funds, goods and services, and volunteer support to enable us to keep moving ahead. We are always grateful for all donations which keep us going.
