Seniors Outreach - April 15, 2020

During this pandemic, I came across this poem by Laura Kelly Fanucci

“When this is over,

may we never again

take for granted

A handshake with a stranger

Full shelves at the store

Conversations with neighbors

A crowded theater

Friday night out

The taste of communion

A routine checkup

The school rush each morning

Coffee with a friend

The stadium roaring

Each deep breath

A boring Tuesday

Life itself.

When this ends

may we find

that we have become

more like the people

we wanted to be

we were called to be

we hoped to be

and may we stay

that way — better

for each other

because of the worst.”

During this experience, we recognize that certain interactions have been lost. They are hard to give up. As we give them up, it is important to recognize that world wide situations such as World War, Pandemics, etc. have been part of our history before. We may not have experienced them, until now, but they do come and go. Treasure your time interacting with others. As much as you can by phone or even computer, do interact. We need to keep in touch as much as we can. Find creative ways to encourage yourself: Reading, Writing, Journaling, Learn A New Hobby/Skill, Phoning, Games, Computer On-Line Meetings, Exercises, and above all set up a routine for yourself to follow.

Until further notice, Seniors Outreach encourages everyone, as much as possible to PLEASE STAY HOME. In all situations practice Physical Distancing of 2 meters. Where safe, do have Social Communication occur. Please Practice FREQUENT HAND WASHING OR SANITIZING and WIPE DOWN ITEMS that you have been in contact with – before and after usage. Be safe and keep others safe as well.

The present situation continues to still be quite changeable, however, Seniors Outreach will continue to take phone calls, set up deliveries where possible, answer questions and even assist with forms. You are also welcome to email us at office@seniorso.ca. We will provide support where possible. Please Call 403-443-2555 or from Carbon and area 1-888-443-2555 (toll free) for any assistance.
