TO GET OUT AND GET SOME EXERCISE:
Seniors Outreach Walk Days Thanks to our walk facilitators from the February Walk Day who have agreed to do this on a monthly basis as we go forward in the COVID time period. Please phone Seniors Outreach before May 4, 2021 at 403-443-2555 to sign up for your walk in one of the three communities with your name and phone number. The walk days will happen on Wednesday, May 5 and June 2, 2021 at approximately 10:00 a.m. in the following locations: Trochu – Start at the Sweet Grass Café downtown after checking in with the facilitator. Linden – Start at the East side parking lot (new section) of the Linden Lodge after checking in with the facilitator. Three Hills – Start at the CommUnity Drop-In Center after checking in with the facilitator.
NOTE: SURVEYING - If this is your first walk, Seniors Outreach personnel will phone you either the Thursday or Monday after the walk to do a brief survey. We anticipate only doing this survey the first time that you are on the walk. IF you attend other monthly walks, we only require you to sign up ahead of time (name and phone number) each time with the facilitator.
WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO COMPLETION: PRE-ORDERS FOR THE SENIORS OUTREACH LARGE PRINT TELEPHONE BOOK - We are presently working on a new LARGE PRINT TELEPHONE BOOK. As this is a massive update please be aware that we may call you to verify your phone number and as such we may not have it out until late April of 2021. To pre-order a book, please call Seniors Outreach at 403-443-2555 or from the Carbon area at 1-888-443-2555. As this is also a fundraiser for Seniors Outreach, the cost will be $10/book due upon delivery.
POSSIBLE MEDICAL TRIP REIMBURSEMENT:
As a Senior, if you are eligible for Special Needs Assistance from Alberta Supports and you need to travel at least 80 km (return) to get your COVID-19 vaccination, please ask for a note/proof that indicates where and when you obtained your shot. This note along with your Personal Health Number may then be sent in to request a medical trip reimbursement. We have been informed to send it in, however, this is not a guaranteed payment. Therefore, please check with Seniors Outreach before submitting this notation.
BACK TO THE PAST – STAGE 1 - COVID RESTRICTIONS:
After assessing the Alberta Health direction of April 6, 2021 by the Minister of Health and the Chief Medical Officer of Alberta, the following decisions will be maintained until at least the end of April , 2021. We are officially back at Stage 1 of the COVID-19 protocols/re-launch. THE COMMUNITY DROP-IN CENTER in Three Hills will remain CLOSED! THE COMMUNITY BUS RUNS in Three Hills WILL NOT OPERATE. GRANTING EXTENDED INTO MAY AND POSSIBLY JUNE: MEALS ON WHEELS (FROZEN MEAL ORDERS): The Meals On Wheels program will continue through ordering and payment (cash/cheque/e-transfer) for these orders. We would appreciate your orders and payment by the Thursday after our last delivery. Each order continues to be limited in terms of WHAT ONE IS ABLE TO ORDER (10-14 Items per person) and our value of an order will be BETWEEN $80 TO $100 per person as we go forward. We continue to be able to have a limited number of orders go in every two weeks. Please try to have your orders into Seniors Outreach as soon as possible as the order dates tend to fill up quickly. DO NOT CALL WHEATLAND FCSS. PLEASE CONTACT SENIORS OUTREACH at 403-443-2555 to make orders and to arrange payment.
The next Thursday order dates are April 29 , 2021 with the delivery date on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, and subsequently the next order date will be May 13, 2021 with the delivery date on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. Remember: If you are not able to have your order in on time for the next order date, your order will be placed on the order list for one of the next 2 order dates. If you are paying via e-transfer funds to Wheatland Meals on Wheels, DO NOT DO SO before you have provided your order to Seniors Outreach and you will be given a date to do your e-transfer payment. FOOD SECURITY:
OUR SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA (FCSSAA) for their willingness in providing our grant support towards overcoming food security issues through the frozen Meals On Wheels over the last number of months during this COVID-19 pandemic time period. This support enables low-income seniors and low-income adults and families in Kneehill County to receive greater food security by providing financial aid towards frozen meals orders through Seniors Outreach and Kneehill Regional FCSS. THIS GRANT HAS BEEN EXTENDED! LOW INCOME ADULTS/FAMILIES contact Kneehill Regional FCSS at 403-443-3800 to order for grant supported low income Frozen Meals. LOW INCOME SENIORS contact Seniors Outreach at 403-443-2555 to order for grant supported low income Frozen Meals.
MEALS ON WHEELS – HOT MEALS:
Please be aware that you are also able to order hot meals for Three Hills, Acme and Linden (deliveries will be at noon hour Mondays through Fridays each week). 1 meal per day is delivered and generally the cost is $10/meal. Call Seniors Outreach to order the week before requiring the meals.
CLIENT SERVICES:
Until at least the end of April, 2021, both the Main Office and the Extension Offices will be dealing ONLY with clients who make an appointment first by calling 403-443-2555 or from the Carbon area 1-888-443-2555, before coming into the offices. You will be expected to wear a mask/social distance and hand sanitize at your appointment. Seniors Outreach MAIN OFFICE is open for regular hours –Mondays to Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Extension Offices: will provide client services in person (by appointment) in Kneehill North: Trochu office at Frank VanderKley’s Law Offices – presently on Tuesdays & Wednesdays (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Torrington office at the Arena is open by pre-made appointments on Thursdays (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.). Kneehill South- Acme office at the Acme Seniors Association – Thursdays (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) Carbon at the New Horizon’s Centre – Tuesdays (9:00 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.) Linden at the 50+ Club (Care & Share Centre) – Thursdays (1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) Please be aware that the doors will be locked at the extension offices. The coordinator for the extension office will let you in at your appointment time!
