The Pilots Futsal Teams played at the ACAC Championships February 24-26 hosted by Medicine Hat College
It was like David against Goliath in the first two women’s games as they lost to SAIT 13 nill and then 13-1 to Medicine Hat with Ginny Anderson scoring the lone goal. Friday night they played their second game in just a few hours and were shut out by Lethbridge 13 nill.
In their final game of the tournament against Ambrose, they gave it their best but were outscored 5-2. Naz Jalil and Dani Penner were the goal scorers.
On the men’s side the long bus ride caught up with the boys as Ethan Stewart scored the Pilots’ only goal in an 8-1 loss to SAIT Friday night. Saturday afternoon the Pilots played their best game of the tournament but were edged 6-4 by The Rattlers. Luis Castenho was the top gun for the Pilots with 3 goals and Oliver Azeredo 1. Saturday night was a different story as Lethbridge stormed the court scoring 5 goals in the first half and coasting to a 9-3 win. Ethan Stewart scored 2 and Jon Copland the other. Sunday afternoon the Pilots took a 3-2 halftime lead to the dressing room only to have Ambrose score the only 2 goals of the second half and win 4-3. Luis Castenho, Oliver Azeredo and Ethan Stewart found the back of the net.
Manager Vanessa Dyck said “I am extremely proud of both our men’s and women’s teams. Despite the disappointing losses, all of the athletes pushed themselves to play hard throughout the weekend. I look forward to seeing what a new year and a new season will bring us.”
