Dance Celebration To Commemorate 20 Years With "The Journey"

Dance Celebration Catch A Star

Dance Celebration dancers are ready to showcase all their hard work from the last year as they prepare for their Spring Recital, Exams, and celebrate achievements at recent Dance Festivals.

Pictured above are Ballet students being recognized at the Catch a Rising Star Festival that took place in Drumheller last weekend. Awards were received for Most Promising (Milo), Outstanding Solo (Maia), Outstanding Duet (Abi & Tibatha), and Outstanding Group (Glory). The Lyrical Group “Not Home Yet” took home the Overall Highscore Award for Ballet/Lyrical Groups for the whole weekend.

Also pictured are some of the Highland dancers that participated in Exams today. An Examiner from Scotland evaluated the dancers over Zoom in the Fling, Sword, Jig, and Theory of Highland dance.

Dance Celebration is also celebrating 20 years of bringing dance to the community since Founder Jennifer Yourk began running classes in the Arts Academy building in the early 2000s. Students then moved to her converted garage for many years before moving to their current space on 2nd Ave N which is home to two large Studio rooms. Their Spring Recital titled “The Journey” is set to hit the stage at the Prairie Tabernacle church May 11-13th. This program will include over 130 dancers from ages 3 to Adult. Jennifer Yourk and her family will be travelling back to participate in the celebration. Director Ashley Savage reflects that Jennifer’s mentorship over the years has been so foundational in continuing to offer a place for local children not only to take dance lessons but also pour into them spiritually and emotionally. They welcome you to join them in the celebrations and attend one of the Recitals. See the ad for ticket details, and Friday and Saturday are already half sold out…
