Thrashers 8-3 over Stettler in exhibition game

After a good competitive training camp, the Three Hills Thrashers hit the ice this week for a string of exhibition games.
This past Sunday afternoon, the squad travelled to Stettler for their first on ice battle after two weeks of practice. With only five veterans dressed, it was a good chance for newcomers to show they have what it takes to play all year with the Thrashers. The Thrashers came out strong and took a 3-0 lead in the opening twenty minutes on goals by Matt Wildeman, Ryan Layden and Corbin Weston. Three Hills extended the lead to 5-2 after forty minutes as Calvin Main and Tyrel Severtson scored for the Thrashers. In the final stanza, goals by Wildeman, Weston and Clinton Nigh clinched an 8-3 win for the Thrashers.
The Thrashers play three games this weekend: Friday night at home against the Red Deer Vipers (8:00 pm), Saturday evening in Didsbury against the Mountain View Colts, and back in Three Hills for a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Strathmore Wheat Kings at 2:00 pm. Three more games the next week begin Wednesday (Sept. 22) versus Didsbury at Centennial Place in Three Hills (8:00 pm) before facing off in Red Deer on Friday night and hosting Stettler on Sunday afternoon (4:00 pm).
Currently, there are 28 players still with the team, though Coach Ian Hall indicates he will try to get the roster to 23 after this Sunday's exhibition games in preparation for the season opener on Saturday October 2.
Pair sign with Canucks
The Thrashers coaches and management are pleased to announce that two defenceman from last year's team have signed on with the Calgary Canucks (AJHL) and should be in their lineup this week as they started their regular season. Matt Hanger tried out in Saskatoon with the WHL Blades before signing in Calgary, while Aaron Neumeier has also signed on with the Canucks.
