Four swimmers from the Neons Swim Club, coached by Nate Thiessen, were among the 450 attending this year's Poppy Invitational at Kinsman Sports Centre in Edmonton. It was a beautiful venue, and our young swimmers were fast! We let our presence be known by winning ribbons, medals and record times.
Sidney Platt (11), having just had a birthday, was now swimming in an older group. He shaved 9 seconds off his 100 M Freestyle and 54 seconds off his 100 M Backstroke, and brought home one 5th place ribbon in the 50 M Freestyle, and three 8th place ribbons in the 50 M Backstroke, 100 M Backstroke and 50 M Butterfly. Keep up the good work, Sidney!
Kristian Freund (10) shaved 9.5 seconds off his 100 M Backstroke time, and was just half a second from reaching his "B" time in that event. He brought home a 5th place ribbon for the 100 M Backstroke and a 7th place ribbon for the 100 M Breaststroke. Way to go, Kristian!
Janna Platt (12) continues to swim those long distance races. She shaved 10 seconds off her 200 M I.M., 16 seconds off her 100 M Freestyle, 17 seconds off her 100 M Breaststroke and 27 seconds off her 100 M Backstroke. Wow Janna!
Aislinn Morton (8), our youngest competitor, brought home the most prizes. Not only did she shave 10 seconds off her 50 M Freestyle and 25 seconds off her 50 M Backstroke, but she won a 6th place ribbon in the 50 M Butterfly, two 4th place ribbons in the 50 M Freestyle and 50 M Breaststroke, one bronze medal in the 25 M Freestyle, and two silver medals in the 25 M Breaststroke and 25 M Butterfly. All these ribbons and medals gave her the 3rd place aggregate prize. Congratulations, Aislinn, for a job well done!
