Thrashers extend winning streak to nine

The Three Hills Thrashers extended their winning streak to nine games with a convincing 5-1 win in Airdrie on Friday night. The victory moved the team into second place in the central division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League.
Michael Stoetzel's unassisted goal just 2:49 into the game got the Thrashers off on the right foot. Cody Boeckman made some key saves when tested and the opening period ended with Three Hills ahead 1-0. Midway through the second period, Calvin Main's short-handed goal extended the advantage and a couple minutes later, Joel Harrison's eighth goal of the season made it 3-0 Three Hills. Kristian Petit managed to finally get the puck past Boeckman with just three minutes remaining in the second stanza. However, Corbin Weston's team leading 20th goal of the season with just 23 second left in the period halted any hopes of an Airdrie comeback. Calvin Main scored his second goal of the game in the third period to make the final score 5-1 for the Thrashers and give them back-to-back wins against the always tough Thunder.
The Thrashers will try to continue their winning ways as they play in Medicine Hat on Friday night and then Coaldale on Saturday night before taking a much deserved Christmas break. Their first action of 2011 takes place on Friday, January 7 as they host the Red Deer Vipers at Centennial Place.
