That's Life - September 7, 2022

The 2022/23 school year officially started with Tuesday, September 6 having been the first day back in class.

Drivers are urged to watch their speed as I assure you that our Peace Officers and RCMP members will be watching your driving habits very closely.

Wednesday, September 7, 2022 is the date set for the Annual Discovery Night in Three HIlls. If you are new to town or even if you’ve lived here all your life, Discovery Night is the place to be to learn more about your community.

Discovery Night begins at 5:30 pm and runs until 7:00 pm at the Three Hills Curling Rink.

There will be about 45 booths featuring sports, volunteerism, fire and rescue, CN Rail Police, Kneehill County, Three Hills Aquatic Centre, Prairie Christian Academy Society and so much more. Enjoy the KidSport hot dog and beverage event, by donation, “So All Kids Can Play”.

Please take note that a complete Fire Ban remains in effect for Kneehill County. No campfires, backyard fires or charcoal briquettes are allowed. Gas or propane stoves, barbeques and portable propane fire pits are allowed.

All fire permits are suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.

This Fire Ban also applies to the Town of Three Hills.

I would like to remind one and all that “Tools for School” is an annual program that really needs your support. This is the time of year when some students can’t wait to get back to school. But for some, it’s a nightmare. If you don’t have the means to get the tools you need to learn at the best of your ability that can be devastating for a child. Please do everything you can to help our less fortunate students acquire all of the tools they need for academic success.

If you are making a donation you can drop cash or cheques off at all Municipal Offices in Kneehill County. There are also donation containers at Carbon Grocery, Balkwill Pharmacy in Trochu and IDA Pharmacy in Three HIlls. You can call Kneehill Regional FCSS for more info at 403-443-3800. If you would like a tax receipt for donations over $25, please make your cheque payable to Kneehill County - Tools For School.

If you or your organization would rather donate actual school supplies or sponsor a child call the FCSS office for a list of needed supplies.

Again, watch out for farm equipment moving on our rural roads. There can also be a lot of field dust that can impair your vision.

With August having been one of the hottest on record, cool temperatures are looking pretty good from my vantage point. I’m afraid what our power bill will be having two portable air conditioners operating almost every night, all night. I guess I could sell paper roses to pay the bill. Real roses can’t stand the heat.

That’s Life.
