That's Life - September 28, 2022

Friday, September 30, 2022 is the Second Annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Schools, municipal offices, post offices, banks and many businesses will close in honour of this day.

The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

As things slowly get back to some form of normal I see that October will be a busy time.

The Capital will honour our firefighters in the October 12 issue. The following week is Small Business Week. See the October 19 issue for our salute.

Now, don’t forget that thanksgiving, in Canada, is the second Monday in October or Monday, October 10. American Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. My friends holding dual citizenship get more than their fair share of turkey and pumpkin pie.

Let’s not forget Halloween. It’s on October 31 or what I like to call Monday.

And add fall turkey suppers throughout the land and the month of October is really getting prepared for the coming festive season.

Hey, let’s not forget that Alberta will have a new Premier in short oder. Depending on where your politics stand that might be something you will give thanks for at your table or that might be something that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I, for one, will have another piece of pumpkin pie and don’t be shy with the whipping cream.

That’s Life.
