That's Life - October 11, 2023

Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, 2023.

This week we present our readers with group photos, activity statistics and personnel rosters of the six volunteer fire departments that so proudly and courageously serve towns, villages, hamlets and farming communities within the boundaries of Kneehill County.

Millions of dollars have been invested to provide our firefighters with the essential tools to serve all of us when the need arises.

Countless hours of training are ongoing providing our fire crews with the knowledge required to provide our communities with all of the modern techniques in answering the calls to service concerning fire and rescue.

Each year Fire Prevention Week adopts a theme. This year it is, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention™”.

In Alberta, cooking is one of the leading causes of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths.

Be sure to read through our Fire Prevention Section for tips on fire safety in the kitchen.

Do your part in fire prevention by making sure your home is safe so that you are prepared in the case of an emergency.

Smoke alarms, when properly installed, tested and maintained, provide the best early warning system in the event of a house fire. Detection and warning of smoke and fire save lives and reduce damage to homes and personal belongings.

You should also develop a home escape plan with your family so that everyone knows what to do if there is ever a fire in your home.

We encourage you to reach out to our volunteer firefighters and thank them for their service. We would like to thank all of the municipalities within Kneehill County for sponsoring our annual Fire Prevention section allowing us, each year, to showcase the six fire departments that serve our region. Thank you, firefighters.
