That's Life - December 6, 2023

As we approach Christmas many of us realize the true gratification we receive by giving to others. Not everyone is lucky enough to be financially comfortable and unfortunately, that’s something that seems to be on the rise.

In this issue, you will find Christmas Hamper Applications for Three Hills, Linden, Acme and Swalwell. Check for application deadlines as they vary.

In Carbon, you can “Adopt a Family” by calling Mary Proctor for more information, at 1-403-821-1288.

In Trochu, you can participate in their “Adopt a Family” program by calling the Town of Trochu office at 403-442-3085. To Adopt a Family please register or make donations by December 20. Those needing a hamper should call the Town of Trochu office by December 15.

Don’t miss Christmas at the Three Hills Library on December 7 from 6-8 pm. There will be crafts, treats, music and so much cheer! The entire family is welcome so come wearing your Christmas sweaters or Santa hats or both.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there so come prepared to take a photo. Bring along a food bank donation and you’ll be entered for a beautiful door prize.

Torrington Fire Department, Torrington Lions and Kneehill County are hosting their Third Annual Candy Cane Run on Saturday, December 9 starting at 5 pm. Rural families are welcome to join in at the Wimborne and Torrington Churches for a chance to see Santa.

This Saturday night is the Three Hills Health Initiative Charity Gala. Tickets to this very worthy event were sold out over a month ago.

I am told by organizers that there are still a few 50/50 tickets left. They are $20 each and are now available only at the Three Hills Health Centre Administration office. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the gala. The winner of the 50/50 draw will receive $5,000 with $5,000 going to the cause. Get yours today.

The Acme Angels Annual Christmas Parade goes this Friday, December 8 at 6 pm. To register a float call Trish Mandel at 403-651-7583.

The Trochu Arboretum Society presents Forest of Lights from December 1 to Jan. 1/24 from 5 pm to 9 pm nightly. Enjoy their hot dog Friday nights sponsored by different businesses, organizations and the Town of Trochu.

Christmas Light Up takes place in Carbon, on Saturday, December 9 at 6 pm across from the Carbon Community Centre. It’s a free family-friendly event with carolling, cookies and baked goods, hot chocolate, children’s gift bags and a visit from Santa with books for the kids donated by the Carbon Library.

I don’t know about you but I have started by Christmas shopping, watched It’s A Wonderful Life, watched White Christmas and I’ve even watched the 1966 Andy Wiliams Christmas special. Once I’ve seen Holiday Inn, Miracle on 34th Street and The Bells of St. Mary’s, I’m ready for the Big Day. HO! HO! HO!

That’s Life.
