That's Life - February 14, 2024

Happy Valentine’s Day to each and every one of you.

Take the time to be a loving person in this world that we live in today. You don’t have to take a second mortgage out on your house to shower your partner with gifts. Simply recognize February 14 as a day to celebrate your love, perhaps with a special meal, a movie or how about a nice walk, together, and don’t be afraid to hold hands.

But February 14th isn’t just Valentine’s Day with all of its cards, flowers, chocolates and dinners.

It’s also Ash Wednesday, Basant Panchami, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day, Gold Heart Day, Have a Heart Day, International Book Giving Day, League of Women Voters Day, LIbrary Lovers’ Day, and the list goes on and on.

As I scrolled down the list I came to one special day that means so much to our family, it’s difficult for me to put my feelings into words.

February 14 is Organ Donor Day. This day celebrates and remembers people who have donated organs to save lives.

Thanks to my sister-in-law Donna, my wife and I will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a kiss, a hug and a walk in the park (hand in hand), but most importantly we’ll be together and that’s the greatest gift of all.

Remember, Saturday, February 17 is the Three Hills Winter Celebration at the Three Hills Campsite and Ball Park. The Town of Three Hills is providing free hot dogs beginning at 6:30 pm. Digger’s Diner will be on location to serve. The annual high-level fireworks show begins at 7:30 pm sharp.

Three Hills Fire and Rescue will be on the scene to keep everyone safe. Remember to dress for the weather.

And let’s not forget that Family Day is Monday, February 19 so there are lots of activities throughout Kneehill County to keep you and your family entertained.

Trochu is hosting Winter Fun Day on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Acme Game Day will be held on February 17 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Acme Legion.

Linden Family Day Fun will see a chilli cook-off at the Care and Share from 1 pm to 5 pm. See the Linden Village ad for details.

Carbon will celebrate with Carbon Fire & Rescue Family Day on Monday, February 19 at the Carbon Skating Rink with free family skating, including hot chocolate and hot dogs, from 12 noon - 4 pm.

Family Day, February 19, will begin with Free Public Swimming at the Three Hills Aquatic Centre from 1 pm to 5 pm. There will be free public skating at the Three Hills Arena from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm.

Whatever you do, take time to enjoy the Family Day weekend with as many family members, and events, as possible.

I’m already exhausted.

That’s Life.
