The Capital is proud and privileged to present a new series to our readers entitled, “Where are they now?” Written by the Award Winning James Rendall, these articles will feature a great number of Prairie Alumni who have gone on to achieve great things. The timing of this series coincides nicely with the coming of Prairie’s Centennial Celebration in 2022. You might recall the column entitled “Memories of a Prairie Boy” by Stephen J. Rendall. I enjoyed each and every one of those and looked forward to each edition with great anticipation. Hey, I knew most of the people he was talking about.
Summer holidays are finally here and the first wave of two-week tourists have headed every which way to enjoy some rest and relaxation. The summer of 2021 will always be remembered for the devastating heat wave that saw record highs throughout North America. Thankfully cooler temperatures have returned and my phone tells me that Saturday will see us back at 30O Celcius. Keep hydrated and stay in the shade whenever possible. And don’t forget to use sunscreen.
Last but not least I would like to remind everyone that our law enforcement officers are out on the roads doing their best to keep us safe. Please don’t drink alcohol or use drugs if you are operating a motor vehicle. Watch the speed limits, stay alert, use your seat belts and child restraints properly and do not text, email or talk on your hand-held device (phone) while driving.
I used to like that old “Bring’em Back Alive” slogan and I miss Smokey The Bear telling us that, “only you can prevent forest fires”. Sometimes things shouldn’t change. And those two slogans still hit a homerun with me.
Get outside and enjoy our world. It’s been a while.
That’s Life.
