That's Life - September 1, 2021

Well, that’s it for “The Best Summer Ever”. Between the heat wave, the drought and medical emergencies the summer of 2021 will not go down in my book as “The Best”. The good part is the medical side is vastly improving and last I checked it’s going to get chilly and rain. Heck, I hear the Premier might even get home from holidays. Maybe he had “The Best Summer Ever”.

Students within the Golden Hills School Division are back in class as of today, Wednesday, September 1st. Covid-19 is still a concern to most of us so I’m sure we’ll see lots of students wearing facial masks. This is not mandatory at this time but they are mandatory for students on school buses as well as the drivers. According to the latest update there are 23 active Covid-19 cases in Kneehill County. Please protect yourselves and respect the health and well-being of others.

Along with Back to School comes the Annual Tools for School Campaign. Kneehill Regional Family Community Support Services (FCSS) has operated this campaign for many years. Through your generous financial support FCSS purchases the required tools to help students from less fortunate families learn on an even playing field with other students.

The Tools for School program relies on cash donations to provide students who need them. Cash containers are available at Three Hills IDA Pharmacy, Balkwills Pharmacy in Trochu and the village offices in Acme, Carbon and Linden. For a tax deductible receipt please make your cheque payable to Kneehill County Tools for School. You are encouraged to contact Kneehill Regional FCSS at 403-443-3800 for additional information. Families needing assistance from this confidential program please call 403-443-3800.

As we swing into the last long weekend of the summer I urge you to play by the rules and make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labour Day weekend. I’m sure our police authorities will be doing everything they can to get us home safe and sound.

And don’t forget that Three Hills Community Discovery Night takes place on Wednesday, September 8th from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Three Hills Curling Rink. At press-time there were 47 booths registered for this great event. Come and discover what your community has to offer you. While there, be sure to support the Kneehill Kidsport Hot Dog Fundraiser so all kids can play.

In closing I would like to congratulate Grant Alfordon being with The Capital for 10 years as of Tuesday, August 31st. Just think, in only 34 more years you’ll have been here as long as I have. Working with Grant is a true pleasure. He is very much appreciated.

That’s Life.
