That's Life - February 2, 2022

So, here we are in February, bracing ourselves for a couple more months of winter and all of the cold, snow and freezing rain that Mother Nature can throw at us.

After the anticipated lead-up to Christmas, with all of its glittering lights, traditional Christmas music and an endless number of Hallmark Christmas movies, January and February can seem like a real letdown.

When someone mentions February you instantly think of Valentine’s Day.

If you have a good sense of humour you might remember that Groundhog Day is today, February 2. It falls on February 2 every year.

Close to home we have Balzac Billy. He is a man-sized groundhog that either sees his shadow or he doesn’t. The Annual Groundhog Day Pancake Breakfast, with all of its special guests and activities, has been forced to go virtual again for the second straight year. One thing is for sure, winter will be over when it’s darn good and ready and not before.

Thanks to the internet many of us have become aware of so many other super reasons to celebrate February. Yes, Valentine’s Day is February 14. But really, if you’re truly in love do you really need a special day, once a year, to express that feeling? I think not. As a matter of fact, February 14 is also National Organ Donor Day. I think my wife and I will send her sister, Donna, a valentine for donating a kidney to my wife. I’m not kidding.

February also features Family Day, Chinese New Years, No Politics Day (what fun is that?), this year we have the Winter Olympics, Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day and on and on. Just keep celebrating and spring will arrive with Balzac Billy or without him, and hey, you can make your own pancakes.

That’s Life.
