A number of events have taken place at the Trochu Drop In Centre this past month. A noon barbeque was held with funds raised given to the Fort MacMurray families staying in the Lions campgrounds. Then on June 9, the Drop In hosted the Seniors Week pancake breakfast. The centre was filled to capacity with many visitors from our neighbouring communities. Proceeds from this event were also given to the Fort Mac family who are very appreciative of the support received from the community. The children, too, are enjoying new friendships and their studies at Tro-Val.

Members and guests came out to the Drop In on Tuesday, June 14 for the monthly bingo and birthday celebrations. Jim Deering greeted all in attendance and with the assistance of Ron Mossop, called the numbers for a variety of ten games. Irene Diack was delighted to be the winner of the blackout prize. Happy Birthday was sung and those present to have their picture taken were Marjorie Deering, Margie Frere and Faye Schmidt. Cake and visiting ended a fun-filled afternoon.

The 40th Anniversary of the Drop In and Memorial service in remembrance of the seven members who passed this year was held on June 17. Jim Deering welcomed everyone present. Bert Adrian and Jim Deering, accompanied by Marina Adrian on piano, opened the program by singing Whispering Hope. Minister, Pat Dyson, opened with prayer and gave the Pastoral greeting, reflecting on the lamp of memory. Marina Adrian provided the accompaniment for the singing of that beautiful hymn Amazing Grace. Donna Pride and Jim Deering unveiled the memorial plaque with Pat Dyson giving the prayer of dedication. Members who passed during the past year (June, 2015 to June, 2016) were Vern Cunningham, Arnold Frank, Vern Greig, Agnes Meding, Frieda Meding, Dorothy Sailer, and Velma Weis. Donna Pride presented a rose to each family member present. Pat Dyson closed the service with prayer. Bill Cunningham, on behalf of the Town, congratulated the Drop-In on the celebration of the 40th Anniversary. Special cake and coffee was served.

Eleven members of TOPS AB 2833 Trochu attended Provincial Recognition Days (PRD) in Jasper May 27-28. We participated in the first-ever TOPS Lip Sync Battle 2016. Nine chapters from across Alberta participated. Our chapter had a great time participating and were recognized as the most fun chapter and received a marionette clown in a stand. We print our chapter name and number on the stand and return it next year to PRD to be presented to another “fun chapter”. Brenda Kolner was recognized on stage as our new KOPS graduate and then participated with our other three KOPS in the “Circle of Light” Saturday evening. Next years PRD will be in Drumheller. TOPS is not only about Taking Off Pounds Sensibly but supporting one another in our weight loss journey, eating and exercising sensibly and having a lot of fun together. We welcome new members, all Kay at (403) 442-2281. We held election of officers June 9 at our regular meting at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre. Kay Gagyi was elected leader, Debbie Jensen - co-leader, Pam Bezanson - secretary, Debb Ruddell -  treasurer. Appointed as weight recorder was Fran Baksza and assistant weight recorder - Marina Adrian. Several other members accepted smaller jobs, each helping make our chapter better and everyone’s opinion counts. Debb Ruddell has volunteered and been accepted as one of TOPS Alberta Field Staff. She is an Area Captain for Area 3. Brenda Kolner of TOPS Chapter Trochu is not only our new KOPS grad but our Chapter Queen as well. Sandra Ottosen has announced that she has reached her goal weight and is recognized as our newest KOPS graduate. Congratulations to both for achieving their goals.
