I Encourage You To Remain In Canada

Dear Editor,

Dear Alberta.

These two words are both a salutation and an expression of affection from Ontario. I am prompted to write as you consider your future in Canada. I hesitate to offer opinions as an outsider, but I have family in Alberta and have visited your province several times. What struck me about you is your vibrancy and friendliness.

My thoughts and concerns on the referendum are twofold: your continued presence in Canada and how the controversy is likely affecting families and friendships. I imagine this is not an easy time for you. My appreciation of your province has grown, as its grievances and contributions were not given full consideration by the rest of the country. Now, the attitudes of many Canadians have shifted and are more appreciative of your presence in the Confederation.

In the referendum, I encourage you to voice a clear commitment to remain in Canada. We are a country that has transformed itself over its history and is more willing than ever to keep Albertans a part of a vibrant Canada.
