Carney And Trump Need To Get Back To The Table

Dear Editor,

Re: It’s A Hot Potato - So Drop It

Recently, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his intention for Canada to become an associate member of the European Union (EU). Immediately, the million-dollar question surfaces, demanding an answer from the PMO in Ottawa?? What price will it cost Canadians to become an associate member of this European organization? Has Carney tested the waters before Canada jumps in? I am always reminded of the idiom, “Haste makes waste.” Before this agreement is signed, sealed and delivered to Ursula von der Leyen and the EU, a parliamentary debate in Ottawa would be the next step to securing this EU agreement at the fall sitting of Parliament. Instead of Mark Carney playing the hero by taking this on, all by himself. This whole EU scenario should set Canadians on edge, making them feel nervous, uneasy, and confused by the Prime Minister’s recent actions and intentions for Canada’s welfare and future. The whole idea of this nation becoming an associate member of the European Union should be dropped like a hot potato immediately.

A host of unknowns exists that requires thorough and proper investigation into the matter. Both Carney and Trump need to get back to the table and hammer out a trade-tariff agreement sooner rather than later. Finally, the Prime Minister needs to remove the EU notion from the equation, as it was never an option for Canada to embrace in the first place.
