Our provincial government has been very short-sighted

Dear Editor,

I was shocked to read this week, on the Alberta Parks website, the list of provincial campgrounds to be closed. In a time when our economy is slow, I would think that supporting an industry like tourism would be a positive thing.

I am concerned with the closures of the campgrounds, on either side of the Tolman Bridge, east of Trochu. These are busy places all summer long, especially on long weekends. Campers do a lot of business in Trochu at our grocery store, liquor store, convenience store, gas stations, etc. Local campers often make their first trip of the year, to test out their trailers, to Tolman campgrounds. A local canoe business could be hurt by this as well.

With people putting big holidays on hold because of the economy, and also the Coronavirus, I would think that local vacation sites would be busier this summer. Our provincial government has been very short-sighted with this decision to save a few dollars and eliminate a few jobs. I urge everyone to let your MLA, the environment minister, and premier know that our parks are sacred places and must not be closed.
