What is the definition of ethics?

Dear Editor,

Re: Ethics

In the July 30/20 issue of The Capital, Damien Kurek, MP Battle River/Crowfoot, wrote an article concerning the topic of ethics.

What is the definition of ethics? Answer: moral duty; obligation; correct behaviour; doing the right thing

Mr. Kurek is correct when he states that PM Trudeau has violated ethical behaviour three times since he became the Prime Minister, and he is correct in stating that Trudeau should resign. It seems that our Prime Minister hasn’t learned his lessons very well. Throwing two female liberal members of Parliament was bad enough over the SNC-Lavalin affair, but his involvement with the WE scandal was “the straw that has broken the camel’s back”.

On top of that last scandal, Trudeau just threw his Finance Minister Morneau, under the bus, for Morneau’s involvement with WE, claiming that Morneau’s family involvement with that charity was a conflict of interest since his daughter worked for WE, and Morneau had gotten free flights from WE. However, Trudeau’s family was also heavily involved with that charity as well, and that situation was a clear conflict of interest. For that reason, Trudeau should have resigned as well. (‘If it’s good for the gander, it should be good for the goose.”).

However, Mr. Kurek fails to mention that Andrew Scheer, leader of the Conservative Party, violated ethical behaviour by criticizing Liberal and NDP members for being dual citizens when he failed to mention to Canadians that he was a dual citizen himself (US and Canada). We call that hypocrisy.

Mr. Scheer also failed to mention to members of his party that he was using donations to the party for his children’s private school education and for other personal expenses. That is unethical behaviour as well.

Mr. Kurek also failed to mention that Peter McKay (who is running for the leadership of the Conservative Party) used military aircraft to fly him to fishing resorts when he was Defence Minister in the Harper gov’t. That was unethical behaviour.

Mr. Kurek also fails to mention the unethical behaviour of a Conservative member of Parliament who is also running for the leadership of the Conservative Party. What is Derek Sloan’s unethical behaviour? Answer: Spreading conspiracy theories and supporting white nationalist’s views. Obviously, Mr. Sloan doesn’t know that Canada is a multicultural society with a Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and maybe he is confused over the issues of racism, bigotry, and the rule of law in our Constitution (like Trump).
